The Anatomy of the 30 Minute Power Surf...

The phone rings at 7.30am, I answer it.
"Maxi, you keen to shoot?"
"Not sure I've got the time Mitch, sorry mate"
"I'm headin down to check it now, apparently there's a couple of waves!"
"Ok, Itchy, I'll pack the gear in the car and head down on the way to the office"

8.10am beach arrival...usual chit chat and admiration of jogging females... 8.18am shoot commences.
CLICK, CLICK, CLICK, CLICK!
8.47am shoot ceases... 9.03am office arrival!

Job done before I'd even started work!

Easter Keggs...

... well not quite, but the waves were pretty good compared to the unfavourable conditions of the past weeks. Trigg Point supposedly had the best waves in the metro, but i'm sure everywhere else in our Great State was providing some shreddable walls.
Check out the first photo... pretty much sums Trigg Point up!
Best surfer gets set wave, morons paddling through the wave instead of around it, said morons too busy watching to bother duck diving, twit paddling on shoulder expecting best surfer to miraculously fall off, thus one of the many fun waves to come through this day is again ruined!
Ahhh... Trigg Point!

Adios Summer...

... let's get cracking Autumn! I'm not afraid to say it, I HATE Summer! Boiling hot weather, shit waves, no banks, test match cricket and crowded beaches. Thankfully we've seen the back end of her until later in the year, so naturally, expectations are high for the quality of waves to rapidly increase!
We've had one cracker swell down south and it looks as though there could be another on it's way, here's hoping I won't be stuck in Perth to shoot it!
Luke Campbell and Tim Fitzpatrick enjoying the tail end of a shitty summer this week!

North Point Pffft ...

... on a day when one of the best waves in Australia, if not the World was 6-8ft and firing, spare a thought for those of us that have to commit to the 9-5 up here in Perth and only manage to squeeze in a quick surf at one of the worst waves in Australia, if not the World!
We give her a lot of shit, but we love her to death! Thank you Trigg! Damon Hayes, Mick Jardine and Lee Devereux featured below!

Broken Drought...

After weeks of small swells, average winds and too much work, we were all blessed with a surprise west swell this past weekend. Like most crew, I wasn't onto it early but received a welcome phone call from Luke Campbell telling me to get my ass out of bed and down to the Point. Unfortunately the rest of Perth got the heads up too, but it was certainly a welcome releif to the heatwave's and flat spells of the last month!
PS: Anyone that surfs the Point and reads this, get out of the way of surfers who are already on a wave! It's pretty simple, paddle around the break and not through it! Soooo many waves get wasted because of people who don't understand the simplest rules of surfing! Anger vented!

Freaky Flash Feast...

... Over the past few months (when time permits), I have been hitting the waters of Trigg & Scarborough in the late evening with a new Aquatech flash set up. The results have been frustrating yet satisfying and even a little bit rewarding. It's not as easy as you would think, but when it all comes together, you can capture some pretty unique images!
Below are a few frames of Luke Campbell and Marc Lee that Swellnet have used on their website. Check out these and a few others by clicking here.

Couple of Campby...

... from the last week around Perth. Summer is definately starting to rear it's ugly head with warmer weather, weak swells, dodgy winds and ridiculous crowds. At least Luke knows how to rise above the issue!
