Flash Filled Fun...

... with Mitch Taylor.
Here are some shots taken over 2 nights locally in Perth. Shooting flash surf photos is never a walk in the park, there are so many variables especially the quickly fading light that controls and alters your backgrounds and the appearance of your subject. You literally have a 45 minute window between the sun being too bright and the black of night approaching. To me it's always about testing the elements but the truth is it's the elements that are really testing you.
Having said that, if it all comes together you can nail some eye catching and thought provoking images. In all honesty, I've never taken a flash shot I've been truly happy with, but hopefully that image isn't too far away!
Big Thanks to Mitch Taylor and Brad Norris for being legends!

Flash Fix...

...been having some problems with my flash setup of late. The boys at Aquatech Housings have helped out with a few equipment changes and it looks as though we're back on track!

Freaky Flash Feast...

... Over the past few months (when time permits), I have been hitting the waters of Trigg & Scarborough in the late evening with a new Aquatech flash set up. The results have been frustrating yet satisfying and even a little bit rewarding. It's not as easy as you would think, but when it all comes together, you can capture some pretty unique images!
Below are a few frames of Luke Campbell and Marc Lee that Swellnet have used on their website. Check out these and a few others by clicking here.

Summer is Coming...

... you can just feel it! The weather's getting warmer, the water's lost it's chill but the most disheartening thing are the months of small swells ahead of us! Luke Campbell decided to start training early for his attack on The Point this summer!!

No Mates...

When I casually ask one of the boys "You keen to shoot in the morning?" the response is usually an overwhelming "Yeah for sure!". But when I quietly throw in a "So i'll see you down there at 5am for a flash shoot?", the response isn't a favourable one, Hence the title, No Mates!

Testing My Toys...

... it was late, well, late enough, 5pm to be exact. The phone rang, Luke tells me he's back home a little earlier than expected and that there are some fun little waves at the bottom of the road. So within 40 mins I had left work, battled peak hour traffic, grabbed my camera gear from home and was back at Scarborough zipping up my wettie. The mad rush was all in aid of testing out my new toys! I have a lot of refining to do, but given a little time, we could nail some gold.

Lack of Colour...

... has been bugging me from my shots of late, so i've decided to post some flash images from last year that are full of colour, but sadly were never deemed good enough to be published!

Surf - Monday Flash

Dusted the cobwebs off the flash housing and met Luke Campbell at Trigg Point before 1st light, Some fun shoulder high waves and as uncrowded as i've ever seen Trigg!!! Not a bad way to start the week!
