My Left Fin...

... Perth has been, by it's own standards, absolutely pumping over the last few weeks.
And whilst it's rare to shoot anything locally worthy of magazine acceptance, it sure as hell is good enough to shoot photos of your mates pulling into the best waves the area has to offer!
Chris "Swiv" Jones and I scored this local beachie with no one else out two mornings in a row. Pristine conditions, good company, gut busting laughs and all it cost us was one left fin!
Now you'll never see these shots on the cover of ASL or Waves, but there's a good chance you'll find them hanging on Swiv's lounge room wall, and that to me, is far more rewarding!

Light and Texture...

... so the last 3 days in Perth have been dead set pumping, well, on a Perth scale they've been 9/10! So rather than chase people down to shoot with, I decided a bit of Urban Solitude was on the cards. So each morning and each evening i've made my way to my favourite spot in the metro area and did what I've never really done... Shot what I wanted to shoot on my own terms.
The results for me were so satisfying that it's made me completely re-think the way I approach my photography! Now, I can't show you the best of the last few days, but what I can give you is a little sneak peak at what my brain was thinking and my eyes have seen the last few days.
I hope you enjoy the entree, I plan to serve the main course in good time!

Chasing the Uncatchable...

A North Swell in WA, to me, is as greater myth as The Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot or a Big Mac that is served looking like the one pictured on the menu. Sure there's photographic proof that they may indeed exist, but until you see one with you're own eyes, there will always be an element of doubt cemented in your mind!
I missed Cyclone Bianca, I missed Cyclone Iggy, infact I've missed every swell that Taj oddly seems to be home for, but today, I was gifted a brief glimpse of how a swell from the north really does effect our metro coast.
It is Phenomenal! It's as if our pathetic yet beautiful dead straight beaches were designed millions of years ago purely for the use of such a swell!
Now as I mentioned, I only got a very brief glimpse, in fact it was only about an hour before the wind totally destroyed it, but what I saw has given me hope and belief that a north swell in Perth (if teamed with light offshore winds) may possibly be the best kept secret in the surfing world!
I'll let you ponder that thought and check out the below!

Water Wonderland...

... Thanks to a long weekend over here in WA, I had the chance to head to the South West and spend a weekend of relaxing with good food, fine wine and great people. I also took the oppurtunity to head off on a couple of solo swims and snap a few images, I hope you enjoy...

Nice Evening...

... for a dip in the ocean, wouldn't you agree?
